HBO on Wednesday unveiled first-look photos of Pedro Pascal as Joel Miller and Bella Ramsey as Ellie from the upcoming second season of the post-apocalyptic drama series The Last of Us, announcing that the Season 2 of the show will premiere on HBO and streaming platform Max in 2025.
“@pascalispunk and @bellaramsey in #TheLastOfUs Season 2, now in production. Coming to @HBO and @StreamOnMax in 2025,” the makers captioned their post on Instagram.
One of the pictures shows Pascal’s Joel Miller staring at someone intently, while the other photo features Ramsey’s Ellie holding a gun.
Based on an eponymous video game developed by Naughty Dog for the PlayStation consoles, the story unfolds two decades after the collapse of civilization. Joel, a resilient survivor, is tasked with escorting Ellie, a 14-year-old girl, out of a harsh quarantine zone. What starts as a simple assignment evolves into a harsh and emotional journey as they navigate a world overrun by zombies infected with a parasitic fungus.
The Last of Us Season 2 reportedly addresses the repercussions of Joel's actions in the previous season's finale.
The Last of Us is written by Craig Mazin and Neil Druckmann who are also executive producers for the show.
Returning alongside Pascal and Ramsey are Gabriel Luna as Joel’s brother Tommy, and Rutina Wesley as Tommy’s wife Maria. The new cast additions include Kaitlyn Dever, Isabela Merced, Young Mazino, Ariela Barer, Tati Gabrielle, Spencer Lord and Danny Ramirez, with Emmy winning-actress Catherine O’Hara appearing as a guest star.
All nine episodes of the first season of the show are available to stream on JioCinema in India. The second season is also likely to stream on JioCinema for Indian viewers.
