English singer-songwriter Harry Styles has transformed into a bearded merman in the music video of his latest song Music for a sushi restaurant that dropped on Thursday.
The quirky music video of the song, from his album Harry’s House, has received more than 4,70,000 likes on YouTube in less than 24 hours from its release.
Directed by Aube Perrie, the music video shows the owner of a sushi restaurant and his workers discover Harry’s merman avatar on a beach and quickly capture him. This marks the beginning of Harry’s struggles to save himself from becoming a delicacy at the restaurant.
Realising the impending doom, Harry starts singing to mesmerise the workers with his charming voice and save himself from landing in a frying pan. The merman Harry goes from being on the chopping block in the kitchen to singing on stage in front of a cheering crowd. However, Harry loses his voice in the middle of his performance, which sends him back into the kitchen.
The song Music for a sushi restaurant, which released on May 20, is a mix of contemporary R&B with pop rock and pop punk.
The unique video seems to be an effort to highlight the ups and downs of stardom in the music industry. Just like the merman’s rise and fall from fame, artists often find themselves in a position where one mistake is enough to end their career.
Harry Styles is known for his unique music videos. From the enthralling underwater sequence in Falling to befriending a fish in Adore you, the quirky styling and cinematography of his music videos always keep fans on their toes.
