Actor Harrison Ford got emotional after receiving the honorary Palme d’Or on Friday at Cannes Film Festival 2023, just after the premiere of his upcoming action-adventure film Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny on Thursday.
The 80-year-old actor accepted the honour from festival president Iris Knobloch amid thunderous applause and a standing ovation.
The festival authorities shared a short video of Ford’s emotional speech on their official Instagram handle. In the clip, Ford is seen to
express his gratefulness to the audience for their unrelenting love and support throughout his career. “I love you too. You've given my life purpose and meaning. And I'm grateful for that,” he said.
Earlier, Ford had confirmed that Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny would be the last film in which he would play the titular archaeologist. This is the fifth film in the Indiana Jones franchise, which started its journey with 1981’s Raiders of the Lost Ark, followed by Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom (1984), Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade (1989) and 2008’s Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull.
The first four films of the franchise were directed by Steven Spielberg, while the mantle of helming the fifth film was handed to Ford v Ferrari and Logan director James Mangold.
Apart from Ford, Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny also stars John Rhys-Davies, Phoebe Waller-Bridge and Antonio Banderas.
It is scheduled to release on June 30 in the US.
