Even as fans of Marvel Cinematic Universe make a beeline at the theatres to watch Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, there are at least four other films on offer in cinemas this weekend. Here’s a look at all the Hindi, English and Bengali films hitting theatres today.
Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 (English)
Directed by: James Gunn
Cast: Chris Pratt, Zoe Saldana, Will Poulter, Dave Bautista, Karen Gillan, Pom Klementieff, Chukwudi Iwuji and Vin Diesel
Star-Lord (Chris Pratt) finds it hard to come to terms with the fact that Gamora (Zoe Saldaña), who returned from death, has no memory of being in love with him. While he takes solace in the bottle, a new crisis looms large as Adam Warlock (Will Poulter) arrives in ‘Knowhere’ to take Rocket (voiceover by Bradley Cooper and played in motion capture by Sean Gunn) back to his master, The High Evolutionary (Chukwudi Iwuji). In his attempt to capture Rocket, Warlock grievously injures him and the Guardians have only 48 hours to save him. How Star-Lord, Gamora, Drax the Destroyer (Dave Bautista), Nebula (Karen Gillan), Groot (voiceover by Vin Diesel) and Mantis (Pom Klementieff) try to save Rocket forms the crux of the film.
Mother Teresa & Me (English)

Cast: Banita Sandhu, Jacqueline Fritschi-Cornaz and Deepti Naval
Mother Teresa & Me follows the stories of two women — Mother Teresa (Jacqueline Fritschi-Cornaz) and Kavita (Banita Sandhu) — from different continents and how they battle all odds with resilience. Kavita is a young violinist residing in the UK whose perspective of life changes when she becomes pregnant and visits Kolkata. In a parallel narrative, the film also chronicles the early days of Mother Teresa in India and depicts the formation of Nirmal Hriday.
The Kerala Story (Hindi)
Directed by: Sudipto Sen
Cast: Adah Sharma, Yogita Bihani, Sonia Balani, and Siddhi Idnani
The Kerala Story, helmed by Sudipto Sen, tells the story of three women from Kerala who converted to Islam and joined the extremist group Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS). Adah Sharma plays Fathima Ba, a Malayali nurse, in the movie. She ends up incarcerated in Afghanistan after joining the militant organisation.
Afwaah (Hindi)
Directed by: Sudhir Mishra
Cast: Nawazuddin Siddiqui, Bhumi Pednekar, Sumeet Vyas, T.J. Bhanu and Sharib Hashmi
This Sudhir Mishra-directed thriller shows how a rumour has the potential to ruin someone’s life. Vicky Bana (Sumeet Vyas), a small town politician aspiring to make it big nationally, finds himself in a spot when his fiancee (Bhumi Pednekar) runs away. She meets Rahab Ahmed (Nawazuddin Siddiqui) while on the run. A video of them escaping from a scuffle triggers rumours about the duo eloping. Vicky now has to find his fiancee and Rahab in a bid to save his career.
Master Anshuman (Bengali)

Cast: Samontak Dyuti Maitra, Priyanka Upendra, Supriyo Dutta, Aritra Ganguly
Satyajit Ray's popular short story Master Anshuman comes alive on the big screen in this adaptation by Sagnik Chatterjee, who had earlier helmed the 2019 documentary Feluda:50 years of Ray's Detective. The film tells the story of a 13-year old boy Anshuman (Samontak Dyuti Maitra), who leaves his home for the first time in his life to shoot for a film in Darjeeling. However, a valuable gemstone goes missing during the shoot and Anshuman gets into the thick of things in order to save an innocent man accused of theft.
