Debbie Allen’s Catherine Fox, who dismissed several doctors in Season 20, continues to be at loggerheads with Ellen Pompeo’s Meredith Grey in the latest trailer of medical drama series Grey’s Anatomy Season 21, dropped by ABC channel on Thursday.

The one-minute-long trailer shows Miranda Bailey (Chandra Wilson) slapping Catherine due to ongoing tensions. Jo (Camilla Luddington) struggles with her pregnancy, while newly promoted interns Mika (Midori Francis) and Jules (Adelaide Kane) continue to pursue their budding romance.

The trailer confirms the return of two characters from previous seasons. Jackson Avery, played by Jesse Williams, is back after leaving in Season 17. Additionally, Kali Rocha reprises her role as Sydney Heron, 17 years after her last appearance.

In the Season 20 finale, Catherine fired Amelia Shepherd (Caterina Scorsone) and Teddy Altman (Kim Raver) for assisting Meredith. The titular character had been instructed to hand over her Alzheimer’s research. Afraid that it would be buried, she had defied orders and published an abstract online instead. Then, Catherine fired Owen Hunt (Kevin McKidd) for refusing to dismiss Teddy while they were in the middle of a life-saving procedure on a patient.

Created by Shonda Rhimes, Grey’s Anatomy follows the lives, careers and relationships of surgical residents, attending physicians and staff at Grey Sloan Memorial Hospital in Seattle. Led by the resilient and talented Dr Meredith Grey, the series explores the workplace dynamics of medical professionals.

On air since 2005, Grey’s Anatomy is ABC’s longest-running primetime scripted series. Season 21 of the show is set to premiere on September 26 on the channel and will later be available for streaming on Hulu.
