Debutant filmmaker Celine Song’s Past Lives clinched the Best Feature award and actress Lily Gladstone bagged the Outstanding Lead Performance award for her performance in The Unknown Country at the 33rd Annual Gotham Awards, held in New York on Monday night.

Rather than her much-talked-about performance in Killers of the Flower Moon, Gladstone received her award for the thriller produced by Music Box Films. Actor Charles Melton secured the Outstanding Supporting Performance prize on the night for his role in Netflix’s May December. Notably, both categories were gender-neutral.

Filmmaker A.V. Rockwell secured the Breakthrough Director award for his A Thousand and One.

Despite going into the night with four nominations, All of Us Strangers, starring Paul Mscal and Andrew Scott, left empty-handed. French courtroom drama Anatomy of a Fall, however, managed to win two awards for Best International Feature and Best Screenplay.

Kaouther Ben Hania’s Arabic-language film Four Daughters took home the honour for Best Documentary Feature.

In the television categories, Beef dominated with two prizes. It won the Breakthrough Series award and its star Ali Wong bagged the Outstanding Performance in a New Series award. The limited series faced tough competition from double nominee Interview with The Vampire, I’m a Virgo, Swarm, The Last of Us, The English and Dead Ringers.

The 33rd annual Gotham Awards introduced a new set of awards named Icon & Creator Tributes. Greta Gerwig and Bradley Cooper received awards in the category for their Barbie and Maestro, respectively, alongside George C. Wolfe, Michael Mann and Ben Affleck.

The award ceremony is organised by the Gotham Film & Media Institute and hosted annually at Cipriani Wall Street. The awards are selected by committees comprising film industry experts, critics and journalists.
