Gordon Cormier’s young Avatar Aang learns to master the four elements — fire, water, air and earth — in a bid to restore peace after a powerful nation declares war on the world in the trailer of Netflix’s Avatar: The Last Airbender, a live-action adaptation of the 2005 Nickelodeon animated series of the same name.

The original animated series, created by Michael Dante DiMartino and Bryan Konietzko, aired on Nickelodeon channel from 2005 to 2008.

Dropped by the streamer on Tuesday night, the two-minute-28-second-long trailer introduces us to Aang’s Airbending hero who teams up with water tribe siblings Katara and Sokka to save the world from the Fire Nation, one of the most powerful elemental nations. With traditional blue arrows tattooed on his head and limbs, Aang sports monk robes and carries a glider staff. However, while the whole world rests its hopes on Aang, Fire Nation prince Zuko gets determined to capture the young Airbender.

With remarkable fight scenes between the Airbenders, Waterbenders and Firebenders, the trailer also shows Aang facing a dilemma. However, with the help of his newfound allies, he rises and declares, “I’m the Avatar and I’m going to save the world.”

With impressive CGI bringing mythical creatures to life and showcasing breathtaking locations in the new live-action, Avatar: The Last Airbender chronicles Aang’s origin story with a liberal dose of martial arts and Eastern philosophies.

Avatar: The Last Airbender will hit Netflix on February 22.
