K-Pop band BTS’s youngest member, Jungkook, crossed the total viewership of this year’s Grammy Awards with a surprise livestream on December 18 that garnered 20.2 million streams on Weverse.
“Live from Vacation #BTS #정국 , 20.2 million cumulative plays worldwide… Highest number ever on Weverse,” Bighit Music wrote on X on Thursday.
The nearly three-hour live stream surpassed this year's Grammy Award ceremony’s 16.4 million views. The singer has also broken his own last livestream record of 16 million views on Weverse.
The Euphoria singer, who is currently on a vacation from his compulsory South Korean military services, greeted his fans in his live video saying, “I checked and was told I could do this, so I decided to go live during my vacation. I’ve really missed you all, and I’m nervous since it’s been so long.”
He further shared the current updates on his life and gave a tour of his new house. “I thought I might want to go live during this vacation, so I adjusted my schedule in advance. I’ve been running and doing weight training every day,” the 27-year-old singer said.
On the request of his fans in the comment section, Jungkook sang over 30 songs in his live streams including some of the popular hits of this year such as Blackpink Rosé’s APT, Lady Gaga and Bruno Mars’ Die With A Smile, BTS Jin’s I’ll Be There and V’s Winter Ahead.
He also sang his own hits from his last released album Golden (2023) such as Standing Next to You and 3D (featuring Jack Harlow).
He ended the live by humming Skrillex, Justin Bieber, and Don Toliver's Don't Go. Jungkook said, “I had so much fun today. I hope everyone is doing well, and I’ll come back after practising more. I’m sad to go, but I’ll be back,” the singer concluded his live stream.
Jungkook's latest three-episode documentary, Jungkook: I Am Still, chronicles the singer's journey from preparing for his solo debut to the release of his first solo album, Golden, on December 3 on Disney+.
Jungkook became the first Asian solo artiste to debut at No. 1 on Billboard with his debut album Golden.
The singer is currently serving in the South Korean military along with his bandmates RM, Suga, Jimin, and V. The band was originally set to reunite in 2025, but this may now be delayed, as hinted by HYBE Labels.
