Godzilla Minus One has finally secured a streaming debut date, but there is a catch — this release is exclusively for audiences in Japan and there is no official update as of now on the digital premiere of the film in other countries.
The acclaimed Japanese-language film, which clinched an Oscar for best visual effects, will also have a physical release on May 1. Fans in Japan will be treated to a range of home versions starting May 1. The highlight is a deluxe four-disc set featuring the 4K Ultra HD edition, Blu-ray discs packed with bonus content. The set is accompanied by exquisite packaging, art cards, and a comprehensive booklet.
Helmed by Takashi Yamazaki, Godzilla Minus One delves deep into the aftermath of post-war Japan, exploring the devastation inflicted on homes, economy, and its people. The protagonist Kōichi Shikishima (Ryunosuke Kamiki) grapples with PTSD as he endeavours to rebuild his life amidst the ruins.
The film also features Minami Hamabe, Yuki Yamada, Munetaka Aoki, Hidetaka Yoshioka, Sakura Ando and Kuranosuke Sasaki.
Meanwhile, the American monsterverse movie Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire continues to draw audiences to theatres. With USD 438.9 million in collections worldwide — USD 159 million is North America and USD 279.9 million from international markets — it has emerged as the third-highest grossing movie of 2024.
