The new KLIKK mega series Barujjye Family is set in the cosy two-bedroom flat of the Banerjee family. Each episode is a funny take on their everyday social and family issues. Bidhan and Kalyani Banerjee, married for 34 years, are the senior couple of the house. Kalyani, a big fan of Rabindranath Tagore, is the bossy one, while her husband Bidhan’s stingy ways often annoy her. Their older son, Arun, works in the corporate world and seems to be the only sane one in the family. His wife, Simran, comes from a traditional Punjabi background. Her cultural differences don’t sit well with Kalyani.
Their 10-year-old daughter, Gurkiran, is a vlogger and adored by everyone. There’s Barun, or Barry, the youngest son and Kalyani’s favourite. He fancies himself as a rapper, but has no real job. Each episode presents a new problem that gets resolved by the end, giving viewers fresh and entertaining stories every week.

Starring Rii Sen, Rohit Mukherjee, Sudipa Bose, Sweta Tewari and Amrita Debnath, the series is directed by Sumalya Bhattacharya. The team recently got together for the trailer launch of the series, which starts streaming next week.

“This is my first experience of working with KLIKK. The script was hilarious and we laughed our guts out, from the script reading to dubbing. We have been overwhelmed with the outpouring of positive vibes and wishes after the trailer launch. I have a special appearance as ‘Pamela Aunty’ a sensuous yoga instructor and things take a chaotically comic turn with my introduction and interactions. Rohit Mukherjee and Sudipa Basu in particular are veteran actors and sharing space with them has been a fabulous experience. The cast has been super in terms of not only comic timing but the working pattern too. Bengali families have held on to their traditional and at times high-browed, conservative stand for ages, but there is a slow but sure emergence of changes and shifts in behavioural taste and culture. That too has been portrayed in an entertaining and lighter vein. I’m thrilled to be a part of such a unique family and fun experience,” said Rii.

“I thoroughly enjoyed all the praises heaped on us and my character Simran Kaur Banerjee, a Punjabi woman married in a funny Bengali household. The actors were so immersed in their characters, that, even when there was no filming, they sometimes found themselves behaving like their roles. Even the supporting actors, who didn’t have scenes on a particular day, stuck around on set just to enjoy the fun-filled atmosphere on set. This mega series is truly a beautiful example of family bonding and teamwork! I’m excitedly looking forward to a long run of this new innings,” said Sweta Tewari.

“The trailer launch response has been very positive. Family dramedy with the lighter slices of life, was a genre we wanted to explore for a while. We have consciously factored in the Bengali ethos and cultural paradigms in the script such as celebrating Tagore romantically, humorously and inherently in family equations. Nuclear families are going through paradigm shifts in heritage and culture. All of that has been explored in a lighter vein. KLIKK has keenly taken pioneering initiatives in every aspect of providing holistic entertainment on the web platform. Be it at the scripting stage, production mounting, exotic outdoor locations planning, casting innovations or even indoor set conceptualisation.

“We introduced yet another new format in the industry, with a mini-series, a few years ago. Now, we are presenting a very interesting innovation in a mega-series format. One episode each week, which will continue every week in the forthcoming months. The entertainment industry is evolving with the changing expectations of audiences across age groups. General entertainment content on prime-time television too is being repurposed and revamped in packaging and duration. Likewise, we have taken the initiative, of this pioneering format on the web OTT horizon.

"This ought to pave the way forward for the linear progression of web series in the days to come. We hope the audiences enjoy this thoroughly as much as we did, in curating this,” said Niraj Tantiya, director, KLIKK.

“Delving into the family comedy-drama genre has been a really gratifying experience for me. Developing the levels of crazy shenanigans of each of these layered characters was a challenge. The happy, laughter-laden response after the trailer, has thrown light upon the fact, that we have ensured that the family members are not only affable but relatable. Santanu Chatterjee, our producer, has contributed a lot in defining the contours of our content and characters. The drama unfolds with a wide range of peculiar characters. The punchlines and dialogues sprinkled with witty double entendre will surely crack broad-beamed laughter,” said writer Sanjay Bhattacharya.

“It has been a thoroughly enjoyable process of directing a fabulous, talented cast. At the trailer launch, we relived all those moments of crazy laughter from the memorable days of shooting. We have ended up truly becoming one big family on set,” said director Sumalya Bhattacharya.
