The trailer of Indrasis Acharya’s film Niharika — which had its world premiere at the Adelaide Film Festival — was launched recently at the Wind of Change resto cafe. The film stars Shilajit Mazumdar, Anuradha Mukherjee, Anindya Sengupta, Mallika Mazumdar, Priyanka Guha, Rajeswari Paul and others. “It’s a story of the belief in love without any inhibition,” said Indrasis, whose critically acclaimed film Pupa was about exploring life towards new horizons without looking back. "Niharika has already been screened at various prestigious film festivals and received rave reviews all around with multiple housefull shows. The trailer has been liked and shared with brilliant feedback," he added.
"When the trailer was launched we were delighted to see the reaction from the audience. Niharika is a special film for all of us... it's made in three different seasons... and now we are happy to see its global and national success. Santanu De is excellent as DoP, and I am sure Anuradha will emerge as one of the finest actors from Bengal. Indrasis has his own signature and language for his stylised filmmaking, a rare phenomenon, and he has already created a good audience base. We believe Niharika will be loved by the audiences," said Shilajit.
"It's a lifetime opportunity for an actor to get such a role in her entire career. Deepa is serene and melancholic but at the same time against societal norms and a revolutionary. I am overwhelmed seeing the reaction to the trailer and people are anticipating a brilliant performance from me. I hope they will not be disappointed as I have been receiving extremely positive feedback around the globe during the screening of the film," said Anuradha.
Rajeswari Paul plays the role of Tuli in this movie. "Tuli is someone whose life is still full of happiness, at least from the family. She has grown up in a healthy environment. Tuli's character creates a contrast next to Deepa's abusive upbringing. Many have expressed their love after watching the trailer. The wonderful landscape of Shimultala draws attention to the immersive journey of our cinema, Niharika," said Rajeswari. The film releases on July 21.
