Filmmaker Ratool Mukherjee's upcoming film Kaliachak Chapter 1 ventures into the realm of crime and action, and is based on the criminal underbelly of a small town in rural Bengal. The team recently got together at Lord of the Drinks to launch the trailer and music of the film.
It's a fictional narrative, based in Kaliachak in the Malda district of Bengal, that deals with a complex maze of characters who are involved in criminal activities like arson, extortion, smuggling, arms and drug dealing, murder and various other nefarious business. Rupanjana Mitra appears as a no-nonsense police officer, along with actors such as Asim, Partha Sarathi, Deboprasad Halder, Debapratimm Dasgupta, Puja Saha, Mrinmoy Das and others.
"The reactions received so far from the trailer and music launch is fantastic. The theme music has grabbed the attention of our audience. People from Bangladesh and the US had called up to enquire about the release of the film. Industry colleagues have found the trailer and the approach of the film very fresh and new. One will get to see many fresh faces who are talented actors. Rupanjana has beautifully essayed her character. Apart from this, I believe that the performances of Partha Sarathi, Debapratim Dasgupta, Deboprasad Halder, Pratish Ghosh, Ayan Banerjee and of course the protagonist of the story, the talented debutant Asim Akhtar, will impress you all. They all have stepped out of their comfort zones and truly gifted us stellar performances," said Ratool.

"When I was asked to play the role of OC Sudha Malakar, the first thing that attracted me was the socio-economic structure of the story and the detailed explanation of how it would be represented. Kaliachak Chapter 1 is as raw and gritty as it gets. I'm happy that the people have loved my performance in the trailer as an aggressive lawkeeper," said Rupanjana.
"The affection and adulation we have been receiving from the audiences swells our hearts with pride. I have gained a lot of experience while shooting for this film. My debut character has this grey and dark persona, which was a huge risk though. But my director and the entire team made things easy for me. I have some really fond memories with everyone on the shooting floor. We had to face many hurdles while making the film, but everyone helped us complete the work," said Asim.
Kaliachak Chapter 1 is a work of fiction and is inspired from true events.
