Team Tekka recently got together to launch the thrilling teaser of the film at Lord of the Drinks in South City Mall. The upcoming Dev Entertainment Ventures film, directed by Srijit Mukherji, stars Dev, Rukmini Maitra, Swastika Mukherjee, Tota Roy Choudhury, Sreeja Dutta, Paran Bandopadhyay, Sujan Mukhopadhyay and Aryann Bhowmik. A man on a mission, Dev plays Iqlakh, who is spotted in the teaser running through the streets with a schoolgirl, who is the daughter of Ira, played by Swastika Mukherjee. Rukmini Maitra plays a cop named Maya.
“As a producer, I’m extremely proud of the team of Tekka, I think it’s the best team. Every producer has a dream of having a good director, a good script, a nice team as the cast, a really pleasant atmosphere to work where we can make a mark in people’s hearts and minds. I’m really proud that we’re bringing a film like Tekka onto the big screen. Earlier, I had worked in thrillers such as Kabir and Byomkesh O Durgo Rahasya. This movie is completely different from the films I’ve done. I have tried to deliver an honest performance and have worked on it sincerely. I wanted to make people believe that this is Iqlakh’s world. If that’s the feedback I get after people watch the film, then I’ll consider it my victory,” said Dev.
“For a very long time, post Zulfiqar I was looking for an opportunity for the right script and screenplay that would justify my collaboration with Dev. There is a significant genre-wise distinction between the movies that Dev and I do. But somewhere down the line Dev intelligently started experimenting with a wide variety of films. And finally, after Chander Pahar, we all noticed that along with Dev’s superstar persona, the actor persona gradually started developing. The list of his films that I really like includes Buno Haansh, and Kabir. Personally, Kabir is one of my favourite films. Dev has constantly evolved as a producer and an actor. Today, when I walk past the walls of Dev’s production house, I feel really proud because there’s a huge variety of films under his umbrella. He is one of the driving forces in Bengali films, and I was very keen on working with him for this reason. Finally, Tekka is a story that is suitable for Dev. The story is by Bhaskar Chattopadhyay, an author who writes fiction in English,” said director Srijit Mukherji.
“Working with Swastika is a dream come true because sharing screentime with her is a brilliant opportunity. She delivers her performance with power and spontaneity. So, I was really excited and could connect to her really well. Dev Entertainment Ventures is revolutionary... as a producer, Dev has brought in a variety of films. As an actor, he makes you believe in his craft with his performance. There was a point during the shoot when I stood still and cried on a shot while watching him break into tears, while the camera was rolling,” said Rukmini.
“Srijit had offered me a film which I couldn’t do as the dates clashed with Boomerang. After that, when he offered me Tekka, he assured me that he truly believed that the character was me. Maya is Rukmini. Srijit is extremely particular about what he wants, when he wants and how he wants it, and he believes in the power of timing. The script was a rollercoaster ride, and it was so exciting,” she added.
“I play Ira, the mother of the little schoolgirl. She works in the corporate world and while in the middle of work, she finds out that her daughter has been kidnapped. And if such an incident occurs in the life of a mother, the impact on her mental, emotional and physical state is what I’ve tried to portray in Tekka. This story traces the journey of all the characters, Ira has her own journey and aim of saving her daughter,” said Swastika.
