As we rolled into the Bohurupi success party, the vibes were electric. The air was pulsating with infectious tunes of Dakatiya bashi and Shimul polash echoing through the speakers like a triumphant anthem. Soul — The Sky Lounge was buzzing with energy and the celebratory ambience was palpable.
The Windows film, directed by Nandita Roy and Shiboprosad Mukherjee, has emerged as a blockbuster hit this Puja. The cast and crew of the Bengali film gathered at Soul — The Sky Lounge recently to commemorate the grand triumph. The star-studded cast of the film including Shiboprosad Mukherjee, Abir Chatterjee, Koushani Mukherjee and Ritabhari Chakraborty were present at the party alongside director Nandita Roy. Mimi Chakraborty also dropped by to celebrate the occasion.
Abir Chatterjee, looking dapper in a crisp blue shirt, said, “Success always feels fantastic! We pour our heart and soul into making films, and the true test is whether the audience appreciates them. Last year, it was Raktabeej, and this year, it’s Bohurupi. I’m incredibly grateful to my audience for showering me and my work with so much love. Their unwavering support is a constant source of motivation. I’m committed to striving for excellence and continuing to entertain them. I promise to deliver more memorable performances and stories that resonate with them.”
“The success of Bohurupi is an extraordinary feat for us. The second week saw more footfall than the opening week and that is a record for a Bengali film. By this weekend Bohurupi will surpass Windows’ most successful film, Bela Seshe’s collection as well. The film has also seen a lot of repeat audiences. The kind of success we have received in single theatres through this film is incomparable. This film is a huge box office success even on the national front. In the second week, the tickets were trending at 27,000 and the trend continued beyond Durga Puja. We are very grateful for the response of the audience,” said Shiboprosad.

“I make films that touch my heart first. I only make films that I believe in because if I love it, I know my audience will love it too. When I start writing, I keep in mind that the story has to touch my soul somewhere. The role played by Shiboprosad in Bohurupi was his birthday gift and all I can say is that I love the return gift I got with such a success,” smiled Nandita.
Based on themes of love, courage, betrayal and revenge, the film is a fast-paced thriller that unfolds the saga of two adversaries. Bikram (Shiboprosad) is introduced as an underdog — a commonplace factory supervisor — who later adopts the completely different persona of a bank robber. Jhimli (Koushani), his wife, is a pickpocket. Sumanta Ghosal (Abir) is a conscientious police officer, while Pori (Ritabhari) is his wife. The cop versus criminal tussle is the focus of the story, with the two characters pitted in a tense battle of wits against each other.
Koushani Mukherjee radiated happiness looking stunning in a golden gown. “I wake up every day with appreciation and positive messages. Even people who have criticised or trolled me in the past are now full of positivity about my performance in Bohurupi. My character of Jhimli is my biggest reward from the film. I think people are going to remember Jhimli and dance to the tune of Dakatiya bashi for a long time. The journey of bringing Jhimli to life was a truly fulfilling experience. I poured my heart and soul into this character, and it’s incredibly gratifying to witness the positive impact she’s had on the audience. The love and appreciation I’ve received for Jhimli have exceeded my expectations. I’m grateful for the opportunity to have been a part of such a successful film,” said the actress who was present at the party with Bonny Sengupta.
After gathering immense success in Calcutta, Bohurupi has now released to acclaim and adulation pan-India. “Bohurupi has captured the hearts of audiences across all ages. This week, we launched the film nationwide, and the response has been overwhelming. Friday night showings saw a remarkable surge, tripling the attendance compared to the Sunday morning shows. In Bangalore alone, over 11 screenings were nearly full, showcasing the film’s incredible appeal. Bohurupi’s second-week collection is the highest till date in the Bengali film industry,” said Shiboprosad.
