Team Kaliachak Chapter 1 recently got together at PVR-INOX (South City) for the premiere of the film. The storyline of Kaliachak Chapter 1 revolves around the news of a young boy who allegedly kills his entire family and puts the bodies inside a cesspit. The bodies are found a few months later by the police and his confessions spin the heads of the investigators.

“The premiere show of Kaliachak Chapter 1 was quite overwhelming, to be honest. The show was thoroughly enjoyed by all the people who had come to watch the feature film. People have loved the subject and the basic narrative of the film. I would keep my fingers crossed and hope the urban audience also gets to watch the film. A lot of things will have to fall in place together for that to happen. The film is doing really well in the northern parts of Bengal and in our neighbouring districts, which is very satisfying to me, as a maker. I am confident that, given a chance, Kaliachak Chapter 1 will be equally loved by the urban audience. The raw gritty storytelling inspired by a real-life crime incident is intriguing in itself,” said director Ratool Mukherjee.

“The atmosphere was electric, filled with anticipation and excitement. Celebrating our hard work together made the night even more special. I feel happy for Ratool Mukherjee, our director, for guiding his team with true spirit and honesty. I’ve been inundated with calls and messages after my character, Inspector Sudha Malakar, came alive on the big screen. I’m being nick-named as Lady Singham, which is a bit overwhelming. Rest, the audience reaction is quite satisfying on single screens, especially in Maldah and North Bengal where we have had back-to-back housefuls. I sincerely hope this film is given a fair chance in urban multiplexes too, by increasing a few more halls and viewable show times,” said Rupanjana Mitra.

“The twist in the end and the unexpected climax that points towards Chapter 2 was quite an enjoyable surprise for the audience. The language of protest with its unique dialect also resonated well with the story’s narrative of Kaliachak Chapter 1. I was somewhat tense but relieved that my debut performance has been appreciated. We returned to a rousing welcome back in Malda, with showtimes being doubled in our home town. This positive response is definitely going to encourage us to strive harder,” said Asim.
