Pathikrit Basu’s Dabaru narrates Grandmaster Surya Sekhar Ganguly's journey of becoming a Grandmaster from the north Calcutta alleys of the late 1980s and early 1990s. Born to a family where his mother (played by Rituparna Sengupta) and grandfather (played by Deepankar De) are both passionate about the game, the prodigy’s talent does not escape their eyes. Both put in blood and sweat to hone his skills and help him find success through his talent. The mischievous days of childhood, and the emotional highs and lows of adolescence — all get beautifully captured in the visual narration of the film. The role of a coach in a sportsperson’s life is flawlessly portrayed by Chiranjeet Chakraborty and Koushik Sen, in a positive and negative way, respectively. Shankar Chakraborty, Biswanath Basu and Sanghasri Sinha Mitra effortlessly add their signatures to the film with their characters, adding different dynamics to the story. Presented by Nandita Roy and Sanjay Agarwal with the creative production being shouldered by Shiboprosad Mukherjee, Dabaru is a story of inspiration, unflinching dedication, sacrifice and passion. The premiere of the film was held on May 10 at Priya Cinema. Glimpses...
