Houseful shows, rave reviews and rapturous applause have signalled the box-office sweep of Bohurupi. Directed by Nandita Roy and Shiboprosad Mukherjee, the film features an ensemble star cast including Abir Chatterjee, Koushani Mukherjee, Ritabhari Chakraborty and Shiboprosad himself. Based on themes of love, courage, betrayal and revenge, it is a fast-paced thriller that unfolds the saga of two adversaries.

Bikram (Shiboprosad) is introduced as an underdog — a commonplace factory supervisor — who later adopts the completely different persona of a bank robber. Jhimli (Koushani), his wife, is a pickpocket. Sumanta Ghosal (Abir) is a conscientious police officer, while Pori (Ritabhari) is his wife. The cop versus criminal tussle is the focus of the story, with the two characters pitted in a tense battle of wits against each other. Besides themes of betrayal and revenge, the story deals with diverse socio-economic themes like unemployment, poverty and injustice. Shot in the picturesque, rural locations of Bengal, the dense forests and vast, expansive farmlands have been used to great effect. Bohurupi also raises questions on the dichotomy between duty and family; crime and law. Team Bohurupi recently got together for the premiere of their film at Cinepolis, Acropolis Mall.
