Dev’s upcoming film Bagha Jatin celebrates the spirit of bravery and national pride that defined one of the most important chapters in Indian history. Its trailer was launched recently at the Alipore Museum. “Dev Entertainment Ventures as a production house always wants to come up with a new and unique way of promoting films, but today is a very emotional day for everyone associated with the film,” said Dev at the trailer launch. An ode to the bravery of freedom fighters who lost their lives to save a generation after, Bagha Jatin boasts a sprawling cast of 92 actors, quality VFX and an impactful BGM by composer Nilayan Chatterjee.

People from all walks of life, including visitors, passersby and fans pooled in to attend the one-of-a-kind trailer launch held at the historic location. Some scenes from the film were shot at the Alipore Museum. So, the choice of the place to launch Bagha Jatin’s trailer resonates a lot with the movie’s theme. “People say that Challenge was one of the best films of my career,” said Dev. “No doubt about it,” erupted fans! “Well, wait for Bagha Jatin, and then we’ll talk,” smiled Dev after joining the team right after Iman Chakraborty and Nilayan ended their performance of the film’s title track on stage.

“I feel that there couldn’t have been a better location than Alipore Museum to launch the trailer of a movie like Bagha Jatin. This place has donned the pride of many freedom fighters for over 150 years. Whenever they got arrested they walked into this place with immense pride, for they had dedicated their lives to the freedom of their motherland,” the actor said while thanking the administration of Alipore Museum. “Bagha Jatin has become an emotion for all of us, more than a film and more than anything else. We’ll probably go our ways in the industry in future, but Bagha Jatin is a film, which is never going to return to our lives in our journey and has left an indelible mark on us all,” he added.

Members of the cast, Sreeja Dutta, Sudipta Chakraborty, Alexandra Taylor, Anirban Patitandi, Kolaj Sengupta, Gurshaan Singh Kohli, Bhaskar Mukherjee, Samiul Alam, Ujjal Ghosh, Abhirup Choudhury, Kaushik Paul, Sajal Mandal and Rohan Bhattacharya were present at the launch, along with singer Iman Chakraborty and composer Nilayan Chatterjee, director Arun Roy and writer Sounava Bose.

“Having a Puja release gives a little more edge to the excitement of any release to be precise, because, Durga Puja is our biggest festival and people wait to watch a good film during the festival. It is a part of the celebration. So, this time I’m delighted that one of my films is going to release in Puja. I play Binodbala, Bagha Jatin’s eldest sister, who was the silent support of his entire journey. She used to be there and support the freedom fighters by sending news, money, resources, passing on information and so on. She was the main source of courage and inspiration in his life. I took a month to shed six and a half kilos to try and look a little more like her. The locations were fantastic and we went for some outdoor shoots in Odisha and they were great and we enjoyed a lot,” said Sudipta Chakraborty.

“Geographical considerations had to be made. You’ll notice a scene shot in Odisha, which has a type of landscape that’s not possible to replicate. So, we went to the real locations. However, we tried our best to recreate the old-world charm of Calcutta with a bit of VFX and shots on the streets. I grew up watching films and was a great fan of Mithun Chakraborty. The way I’ve directed the movie is from all the experiences in film-making, that I’ve gathered while growing up,” said director Arun Roy.
