Actor Glen Powell has tipped his hat to the late Bill Paxton on the release day of Twisters, a standalone sequel to the latter’s 1996 disaster movie.
“As we release Twisters into the world today, I just wanted to look up and tip my hat to the legend that is Bill Paxton. A great friend of mine who saw poetry in the natural world. His boots are impossible to fill, but this life is all about chasing the greats. ,” the actor wrote on social media on July 19 (US time).
Accompanying his tribute, Powell shared a photo with fellow Texan Paxton, both of them wearing cowboy hats, with whom he had worked in 2013’s Red Wing.
Paxton died in 2017 from a stroke at 61. One of his most memorable roles is storm-chaser Bill Harding in Jan de Bont's blockbuster Twister (1996) in which he starred opposite Helen Hunt.
In the sequel to the 1996 classic, Powell plays a YouTube star named Tyler Owens who makes videos of his storm-chasing adventures. His paths cross with a meteorologist named Kate (Daisy Edgar-Jones), who is testing an experimental weather alert system.
Directed by Lee Isaac Chung, the new disaster film also features Anthony Ramos, Brandon Perea, Maura Tierney, and Sasha Lane.
