Actor Pedro Pascal has offered a glimpse into the making of Gladiator II in a series of behind-the-scenes pictures and videos featuring the film’s huge props and fight rehearsals.

The pictures, featuring Pedro Pascal and Paul Mescal, were taken during the shooting of the film in Morocco.

“Mémoire photographique,” the 49-year-old actor captioned the pictures on Instagram on Thursday.

One of the photos features a massive battle ship in a desert, while another shows Pascal within what seems like an ancient Roman fortress.

A video shows Pedro and Paul practising a sword fight in t-shirt and shorts. Other pictures show Pascal and his co-stars, including May Calamawy, enjoying sunsets, picnics and bonfires during their Moroccan shoot schedule.

Gladiator II follows the events following the death of Maximus (Russell Crowe). It centres on his son Lucius (Paul Mescal), whose life was profoundly influenced by the fallen hero. The story explores Lucius’s journey as he rises to become a gladiator, determined to honour his father’s legacy and reclaim the lost glory of Rome. Facing formidable challenges, Lucius must go head-to-head with Pedro Pascal’s character, General Acacius, a powerful figure standing in the way of Rome’s resurgence.

Apart from Connie Nielson, Djimon Hounsou has reprised his role as Juba in the upcoming sequel. Barry Keoghan and Derek Jacobi also feature in the film.

The original 2000 film follows the story of Maximus, a betrayed Roman general who rises through the ranks of the gladiatorial arena after being sold into slavery to avenge the murder of his family and the betrayal by the corrupt emperor Commodus.
