The second season of Ginny & Georgia, streaming on Netflix, turns the spotlight on the much-needed conversation around generational trauma and the importance of therapy in the backdrop of an evolving mother-daughter tale. Starring Antonia Gentry as Ginny and Brianne Howey as Georgia, this comedy drama is also loaded with murder mysteries and romantic rendezvous. Here’s what kept us glued to Season 2 of Ginny & Georgia, which ended on a cliffhanger, yet again.

Ginny turns into a rebel

The first season of Ginny & Georgia explored the tumultuous mother-daughter relationship while giving an insight into a part of their history. After finding out about her mother’s murderous past, Ginny flees home with her brother Austin (Diesel La Torraca) and lands up at her biological father Zion’s house. While her escape is short-lived, it gives Ginny a chance to open up to Zion about her mental health, making a crucial point in showing how important parents’ support for children is in healing past trauma.

Ginny soon returns to her mother’s house only to turn into a rebellious teenager — something that Georgia secretly enjoys. The 15-year-old colours her hair blue, refuses to eat dinner at home and starts a romantic relationship with Marcus again (Felix Mallard). During these developments, she also has a hard time at school and battles a racist teacher.

Georgia’s history is explored

Season 1 of Ginny & Georgia explored a part of Georgia’s past, showing her abusive childhood and how she got out of it only to fall back into the cycle again with future partners. While Georgia killing two of her husbands in self-defence was shown in the first season itself, season 2 takes a closer look at her early life and how she brought up Ginny as a single mother. Georgia’s relationship with Austin’s biological father Gil Timmins (Aaron Ashmore) and the reason behind the young mother framing her boyfriend for money laundering is also in focus.

Towards the end of Season 2, Georgia washes off face paint to reveal the face of someone who has been abused, and we know why she framed Gil. The shocker, however, comes with the accidental killing of Georgia’s first husband Anthony Greene (Rodrigo Fernandez-Stoll). While the murder had been covered up by the Blood Eyes biker gang, it comes back to haunt Georgia’s present when private detective Gabriel starts to dig up her past.

Ginny and Georgia go to therapy

Most of Season 2 explores mental health issues with sensitivity. Ginny starts undergoing therapy after a talk with Zion. Ginny also opens up to her mother about her self-harming habit leaving Georgia heartbroken but determined to make things better. Georgia, initially sceptical about therapy, decides to attend a session with Ginny, which makes the mother-daughter duo realise the importance of therapy and how it could help them heal their trauma. As Ginny looks for ways to stop her self-harming behaviour, it turns out that Ginny is triggered by her mother being a killer.

It isn’t just Ginny, however, who is going through tumultuous mental health. Her friend Abby (Katie Douglas) has gone from taping her legs towards a serious eating disorder. Marcus, on the other hand, falls into severe depression, ending his relationship with Ginny in Episode 9. The bright side in Marcus’s life comes in the form of his parents, who are aware of his mental health issues and help him out with all he needs.

It’s murder o’clock at Wellsbury

While most of Georgia’s killing spree was restricted to abusive partners in the first season, this time she goes after her frenemy Cynthia’s (Sabrina Grdevich) husband, Tom Fuller, who is bed-ridden. Georgia feels sympathetic towards Cynthia and her son and smothers Tom with a pillow. However, P.I. Gabriel catches up on her murderous spree and gets Georgia arrested. The most disturbing part, however, is Georgia’s younger son Austin accidentally seeing his mother kill Cynthia’s husband.

Joe deserves better

One of the most beloved characters from the show has been Joe, played by a dashing Raymond Ablack. Most of Joe’s history with Georgia was revealed in the first season, giving us our most anticipated ship. But Georgia ends up with Wellsbury’s mayor, Paul (Scott Porter). Season 2 almost gives us hope of Georgia and Joe getting together, but it is Cynthia who ends up romancing Joe briefly. Ginny, at times, also turns to Joe as a friend. But the cafe owner is constantly let down in his love life. Some of the funniest scenes of Season 2 actually end up with Joe learning more about Georgia’s past while her ex-beau Zion and present fiance Paul bond in his cafe.
