George R. R. Martin and Ryan Condal’s fantasy drama series House of the Dragon has been renewed for a third season, streaming platform Max announced on social media ahead of the June 16 premiere of the show’s second instalment.
“The Dance of the Dragons continues. #HouseOfTheDragon has been renewed for Season 3, ahead of its Season 2 premiere this Sunday on @streamonmax,” the streamer wrote on Instagram on Thursday.
Season 2 of the series will revolve around the ongoing Targaryen civil war between Green and Black Councils that are fighting for King Aegon (Tom Glynn-Carney) and Queen Rhaenyra Targaryen (Emma D’Arcy), respectively.
The latest trailer dropped by Max on May 14 revealed that Rhaenyra is planning an offensive against her half-brother Aegon, who has supposedly usurped her position. Rhaenyra’s eldest son Prince Jace (Harry Collett), pays a visit to the Wall, a colossal fortification, seeking an alliance with House Stark in the upcoming season. The trailer also captures the rising tension between Rhaenyra and her husband Daemon (Matt Smith). Interspersed with clips of the fierce battle, the trailer provides a glimpse of the violent and destructive war that is to follow as Rhaenyra tries to reclaim her throne.
Olivia Cooke, Eve Best, Steve Toussaint, Fabien Frankel, Ewan Mitchell, Sonoya Mizuno and Rhys Ifans will return for the second instalment of the fantasy series. New additions to the cast include Gwayne Hightower, Simon Russell Beale, Clinton Liberty, Jamie Kenna, Kieran Bew, Tom Bennett, Tom Taylor and Vincent Regan.
Based on the 2018 book Fire and Blood by George R.R. Martin, this Game of Thrones prequel series premiered on Max on August 21, 2022, laying the groundwork for a devastating war of succession known as the Dance of the Dragons.
Indian viewers can watch all episodes of House of the Dragon Season 1 on JioCinema with a premium subscription. Season 2 of the popular fantasy drama series will be available for streaming from June 17 on the platform.
