Sunny Deol’s sledgehammer-wielding Tara Singh goes on a mission to Pakistan to rescue his son, taken captive by a vengeful Pakistani army general, in the Gadar 2 trailer, dropped by Zee Studios on Wednesday evening.

Sunny Deol and Ameesha Patel reprise their roles as Tara Singh and Sakiuna, respectively, from Gadar - Ek Prem Katha (2001) in the three-minute-three-second-long trailer of the sequel. We see their son Jeete, played by Utkarsh Sharma who also portrayed the same role in the previous film, getting tortured by a Pakistani army general in an army camp in Lahore. Tara promises an anguished Sakina that he’ll bring Jeete back and goes to Lahore, taking on the entire Pakistani army with a sledgehammer.

The video also gives us a glimpse of Manish Wadhwa, who plays an evil Pakistani general, a role that he mastered in Shah Rukh Khan-srarrer Pathaan. Set against the backdrop of the ‘Crush India’ campaign in 1971, the film promises to portray the intense rivalry between India and Pakistan through action-packed sequences, jingoistic dialogues and cross-border drama blended with patriotic chest-thumping.

The trailer ends with Tara Singh staring at a hand-pump and we can already guess what’s coming next. Tara Singh’s uprooting of a hand-pump to beat up an entire mob in Gadar - Ek Prem Katha went on to become one of Bollywood’s most iconic action scenes.Watch the trailer here:

Sharing the trailer on social media on the occasion of Kargil Vijay Divas on Wednesday, Sunny Deol wrote, “Apne parivaar aur desh ke liye, ek baar phir se Gadar machayega Tara Singh! (For the sake of his family and his nation, Tara Singh will fight back).”

Helmed by Anil Sharma from a story written by Shaktimaan Talwar, Gadar 2 also features Manish Wadhwa, Gaurav Chopra, Simrat Kaur, Luv Sinha and Mir Sarwar among others. Gadar 2 will hit the cinemas on August 11.
