Fukrey 3, Chandramukhi 2, Saw X, Tarokar Mrityu: New releases to watch in theatres this weekend

Pulkit Samrat, Manjot Singh and Varun Sharma are set to pit their wits against Richa Chadha’s Bholi Punjaban in the latest instalment of the comedy film series Fukrey releasing this week. But there’s even more. Here’s a look at all the Hindi, English and Bengali films dropping on Friday.

Fukrey 3 (Hindi)

Cast: Richa Chadha, Pulkit Samrat, Pankaj Tripathi, Varun Sharma and Manjot Singh

Six years after their last screen appearance in Fukrey 2, Pulkit Samrat’s Hunny, Manjot Singh’s Lali Halwai, Varun Sharma’s Choocha and Pankaj Tripathi’s Panditji are at war with Richa Chadha's Bholi Punjaban yet again in the new instalment of the popular film series. Things begin to stir when Hunny and Choocha hatch a plan to contest an election against Bholi, resulting in a dramatic showdown between them.

The Vaccine War (Hindi)

Cast: Nana Patekar, Pallavi Joshi, Raima Sen, Anupam Kher, Girija Oak, Nivedita Bhattacharya, Sapthami Gowda, and Mohan Kapur

The Vaccine War chronicles the story of the creation of Covaxin — a vaccine developed by India during the COVID-19 pandemic. Nana Patekar leads a team of dedicated scientists who confront numerous challenges, including media trials, on the way. Raima Sen portrays a journalist determined to tarnish the reputation of both the indigenous vaccine and the government. Anupam Kher, Pallavi Joshi, Girija Oak, Nivedita Bhattacharya, Sapthami Gowda and Mohan Kapur play key roles in the film.

Chandramukhi 2 (Tamil, Hindi)

Directed by: P. Vasu

Cast: Raghava Lawrence, Kangana Ranaut, Vadivelu, Raadhika Sarathkumar, Lakshmi Menon and Srushti Dange

Chandramukhi 2, a comedic horror movie penned and helmed by P. Vasu, serves as a follow-up to the 2005 hit Chandramukhi. The story centres on a woman grappling with dissociative identity disorder, a condition that takes a toll on her family. A psychiatrist embarks on a mission to unravel the mystery, only to find himself endangered by otherworldly phenomena. Kangana Ranaut plays the titular role in this movie, while Raghava Lawrence plays Vettaiyan Raja.

Skanda (Telugu, Hindi)

Directed by: Boyapati Sreenu

Cast: Ram Pothineni, Sreeleela, Saiee Manjrekar and Prince Cecil

Skanda, a gripping action-drama helmed by Boyapati Sreenu, narrates the tale of Bhaskar (portrayed by Ram Pothineni), a tough college student determined to settle scores with powerful individuals as he seeks retribution for his family's tragedy. Sreeleela takes on the role of Bhaskar's romantic partner in the film. Saiee Manjrekar and Prince Cecil are also part of the ensemble cast.

Saw X (English)

Directed by: Kevin Greutert

Cast: Tobin Bell, Shawnee Smith, Synnøve Macody Lund, Steven Brand, Michael Beach and Renata Vaca

Saw X marks the 10th chapter in the Saw film franchise, bridging the storyline by acting as a continuation of Saw (2004) and a precursor to Saw II (2005). Following the events of Saw (2004), John Kramer (played by Tobin Bell) embarks on a journey to Mexico upon hearing about a purported ‘miracle’ remedy for his incurable cancer. But his hopes are dashed when he uncovers a deceptive scheme preying on susceptible individuals. In response, the notorious serial killer discovers a fresh purpose as he kidnaps the fraudsters and exposes them to a chilling array of new traps.

The Creator (English)

Cast: John David Washington, Gemma Chan, Ken Watanabe, Sturgill Simpson and Allison Janney

In a looming conflict between humanity and artificial intelligence, ex-special forces operative Joshua (John David Washington) is enlisted to track down and eliminate the Creator, the enigmatic mastermind behind advanced AI technology. This elusive figure has forged a cryptic weapon capable of terminating humanity. As Joshua and his squad of highly skilled agents venture into enemy-controlled territory, they stumble upon a startling revelation: the world-ending weapon is, in fact, an AI embodiment in the guise of a young child. Gemma Chan, Ken Watanabe, Sturgill Simpson and Allison Janney play significant roles in the sci-fi movie.

Tarokar Mrityu (Bengali)

Directed by: Haranath Chakraborty.

Cast: Ranjit Mallick, Ritwick Chakraborty, Parno Mittrah and Soham Majumdar

Tarokar Mrityu is a suspense thriller directed by Haranath Chakraborty. The story revolves around a married couple, portrayed by Ritwick Chakraborty and Parno Mittrah. Ritwick assumes the role of a scriptwriter, while Parno plays a school teacher. Seeking respite from their mundane life, they travel to Kalimpong for a rejuvenating vacation. Opting to lodge in a charming yet rumoured-to-be-haunted bungalow, their tranquil getaway quickly transforms into a spine-tingling adventure as they encounter supernatural occurrences. These inexplicable events ultimately lead to a perplexing murder case. Ranjit Mallick plays the investigating officer assigned with the responsibility of unravelling the mysteries shrouding the eerie house.
