Freeze frame: Claire Danes, Kevin Spacey

Homeland star Claire Danes says the success of HBO 2010 TV movie Temple Grandin made her realise that she could no longer play “the girlfriend role”. The 39-year-old actress, who received critical acclaim for playing the title role of an autistic woman in the film, said she decided to wait for meatier characters which were tough to come by. “It was an awkward period because I felt so stretched and so revived and robust as a performer, I felt very alive and ready, and there just wasn’t anything worthy of attaching myself to... I just couldn’t bring myself to do something two-dimensional, so I chose not to do anything at all, which was tough,” Danes told The Hollywood Reporter.

A new release date has been set for Billionaire Boys Club, Kevin Spacey’s first film to hit cinemas since the actor was accused of committing sexual assault. Based on a real-life 1987 murder case, the film is set for release on online streaming platforms from July 17, and will have a limited cinema release from August 17. Distributor, Vertical Entertainment, said: “We hope these distressing allegations pertaining to one person’s behaviour — that were not publicly known when the film was made almost 2.5 years ago — do not tarnish the release.”
