Former Pakistan cricketer Shoaib Akhtar has taken a sly dig at Satyaprem Ki Katha’s newly released track Pasoori Nu, a remake of the Coke Studio song Pasoori by singers Ali Sethi and Shae Gil, on social media.

The fast bowler expressed his dislike of the Bollywood remake through a Twitter post. “Aye ki pasoori paayi ay (What is this disaster),” he wrote on June 27.

On June 26, T-Series released the music video of Pasoori Nu starring Kartik Aaryan and Kiara Advani. Upon its release, the song was largely subjected to negative responses from listeners across the border for “butchering” the original track that dominated charts upon its release last year.

Other Pakistani celebrities including actors Adnan Siddiqui and Amar Khan, also expressed their dislike of the remade version of the song.

Even before the Bollywood track was released, Siddiqui, who acted alongside Sridevi in Mom, had tweeted, “Pasoori is a song loved all over the world. I hope Bollywood won’t slaughter this masterpiece as it does to others in the garb of remaking.” After the song was out, however, the actor wrote, “And Bollywood did exactly what we feared! #pasoori #nogoodasusual.”

Daraar actress Amar Khan wondered why the original song was called a “global hit” and not a “Pakistani hit”. “Wait a second I wish they had titled it as a ‘Pakistani Hit’ coz ‘Global Hit’ is very smartly placed to avoid the origins of the iconic song which is #madeinpakistan Ps : No cross border hatred, Ive grown up on indian songs and i hate when they ruin their own classics off late,” she wrote on Twitter.

The Hindi remake is composed by Rochak Kohli and sung by Arijit Singh and Tulsi Kumar. Ali Sethi’s original song Pasoori was made for Coke Studio Season 14 and had become an international phenomenon last year. Fusing poetic tradition with global beats, the Punjabi track was 2022’s most-searched song on Google and has already surpassed half a billion views on YouTube.

Although the recreated Bollywood track is getting a lot of negative reactions, it too has already crossed 12 million views on YouTube.

Helmed by Sameer Vidwans and jointly produced by Nadiadwala Grandson Entertainment and Namah Pictures, Satyaprem Ki Katha will arrive in cinemas on June 29.
