Todd Phillips-helmed film Joker: Folie à Deux starring Joaquin Phoenix and Lady Gaga is set to release in India early on October 2, PVR Cinemas announced on Wednesday.
The upcoming Joker sequel was previously slated to hit theatres in India on October 4.
“The most anticipated sequel is coming earlier than expected! 'Joker: Folie à Deux' Releasing at PVR INOX on 2nd October,” the multiplex chain wrote alongside character posters of Joaquin Phoenix’s Joker and Lady Gaga’s Harley Quinn.
While Phoenix will reprise his Oscar-winning role as Joker in the new movie, Gaga will step into the shoes of Harley Quinn, a character previously played by Margot Robbie in The Suicide Squad film series.
Joker: Folie à Deux will continue the tale of Arthur Fleck, a failed comedian who finds love in the unlikely form of Harley Quinn while confined at Arkham State Hospital.
Directed by Todd Phillips, Joker: Folie à Deux will also feature Catherine Keener, Brendan Gleeson and Zazie Beetz as part of the supporting cast.
The 2019 Joker film amassed over USD 1 billion worldwide, making it the first R-rated film to achieve the feat and the sixth highest-grossing film of the year. It fetched an Oscar for Phoenix in the best actor category
