Netflix UK has dropped the first look of Prince William and Kate Middleton as college-aged royals from the sixth season of The Crown. The future Duke and Duchess of Cambridge — played by Ed McVey and Meg Bellamy — will be the central focus of the final season of the Netflix series based around the life and reign of Queen Elizabeth II.
McVey’s Prince William is seen in a blue shirt and blazer, while Meg Bellamy’s Kate Middleton is seen sitting in a classroom at University of St. Andrews, Scotland, where the royal couple had met in real life in 2001. They married in 2011 after a decade of courtship, and if the age of the actors is any indication, the final season will probably skip their wedding.
The logline of the 10-episode finale reads, “As The Crown enters a new decade, Prince William starts at university in St. Andrew’s, determined to lead as normal a life as possible while he still can. Also beginning life as a university student is Kate Middleton from Berkshire. As the pair meet for the first time on campus, a new romance and a new future for The Crown begins.”
The previous season had ended with Lady Diana’s divorce from Prince Charles in 1996. The new episodes will likely start off from the tragic death of Lady Diana in 1997 and other historical events including the Queen’s Golden Jubilee.
The sixth and final season of The Crown will premiere on Netflix later this year.
