After slipping into the shoes of an iconic detective, a few historical characters and, most recently, a conscientious cop, Dev is going to be back in full action mode later this year.

“One of the most experimental films,” wrote Dev, in the caption to the first-look poster of Khadaan, which he shared on social media.

A joint production of Surinder Films and Dev Entertainment Ventures, Khadaan will star Bangladeshi actress Idhika Paul and will be directed by Soojit Dutta.

Dev’s other big project this year will be Tekka, with filmmaker Srijit Mukherji, co-starring Swastika Mukherjee and Rukmini Maitra.

His last release Pradhan, along with Paran Bandyopadhyay, Soumitrisha Kundu and Anirban Chakrabarti, is currently running in the theatres.

Jaya Ahsan as a restless spirit

Following her Hindi film debut with Aniruddha Roy Chowdhury’s Kadak Singh, streaming on ZEE5, Jaya Ahsan is gearing up for her next Bengali release, Bhootpori.

Directed by Soukarya Ghosal, Bhootpori revolves around a woman (played by Jaya Ahsan) who died in 1947 and a little boy (played by Bishantak Mukherjee) who meets this restless spirit. As the story progresses, the woman takes the help of the boy to unravel the mystery behind her death.

“I was always fascinated by the Bhooter Raja in Satyajit Ray’s Goopy Gyne Bagha Byne. I always wanted to make a film that deals with the friendly bond between ghosts and humans and eventually discover the fun and the dangers of it,” said Soukarya.

“The film is not limited to horror and ghosts but touches upon the crime thriller genre as well,” added Jaya.

Scheduled for a theatrical release on February 9, Bhootpori also stars Ritwick Chakraborty, Sudipta Chakraborty and Shantilal Mukherjee. Nabarun Bose has composed the film’s music.
