Keep a bucket of popcorn and plenty of cola ready tonight. The big question: Is it the end of the road for Apple TV+’s Ted Lasso? There have been plenty of hints that the final episode of the third season will be the last we see of the beloved TV character who has made us believe that all things are possible. And then there is the hope that something dramatic is going to happen and the Lasso way of life continues on TV.
The journey of an American college football coach — Jason Sudeikis plays the titular character — who suddenly finds himself as the coach of a fictional English Premier League team, AFC Richmond, has been an amazing one. It’s a show that has motivated people through the pandemic with its sincere storyline and characters who just can’t appear bad or insincere. Maybe Ted Lasso will leave AFC Richmond and head back to America. Will Nate (Nick Mohammed), who has been offered a second chance at life, make sensible decisions? And will club owner Rebecca (Hannah Waddingham) find the love of her life? Too many questions are there. And there are too many lessons that Ted Lasso has taught us.
Only an inspirational leader can make a teamwork
Every team member has something to bring to the table but they also have drawbacks. It’s up to the team leader, who may not have all the knowledge in the world, to make people work together while clearing out the weeds.
Tackle the intensity of work
When intensity increases at work, there will be dissatisfaction and mental health issues such as stress and anxiety. Ted Lasso looks after his team members and gives them something to rejoice about even when they are overworked.
It’s not just about delegating tasks
Ted Lasso shows that an effective manager doesn’t burden people with work and makes them push beyond their performance limits. He leads from the front by setting goals, takes on enough responsibilities himself and empowers team members to deliver results.
Tell the truth
In the very first season we are told by Rebecca Welton, the owner of AFC Richmond, that she hired Ted to coach so that she could sabotage the team that she had received in a divorce settlement. Instead of being angry, Ted empathises with Rebecca and takes on the biggest challenge of his career.
Be a goldfish
There will always be people who will try to bring you down, humiliate you. Ted asks his team to choose happiness: “You know what the happiest animal on Earth is? It’s a goldfish. Do you know why? It’s got a 10-second memory.” In other words, focus on the task before you and not the critics.
