Five years after he made a splash on debut in Bollywood with the much-talked-about Pink, that blew the lid off the many hypocrisies prevalent in Indian society and kick-started several meaningful conversations, Aniruddha Roy Chowdhury is all set to start filming his second Hindi feature film.
Titled Lost, the film will be frontlined by Yami Gautam and boasts an interesting ensemble cast, with Rahul Khanna and Pankaj Kapur featuring in important roles. Neil Bhoopalam, Pia Bajpiee and Tushar Pandey make up the rest of the cast. Lost is being co-produced by Zee Studios, Kishor Arora, Shareen Mantri Kedia, Sam Fernandes and Indrani Mukherjee.

Much like Pink, as well as his debut Bengali film Anuranan, Lost is built around the ‘power of a woman’. “The film represents the power of a feisty investigative journalist, played by Yami Gautam., trying to unearth a dark truth in the underbelly of Calcutta,” Aniruddha Roy Chowdhury — better known as Tony — told The Telegraph on Tuesday.
Tony describes Lost as an “emotional thriller” and says the core of Lost is built on “how far an honest woman can go to find out the truth”. “The name Lost resonated with me because in today’s world we are losing everything... love, commitment, care, relationships, affection, responsibility....” he adds.
Lost, Tony maintains, is based on an amalgamation of real-life events. “I take all my films from what’s happening around us,” the man behind films like Antaheen and Aparajita Tumi tells The Telegraph. Besides the actors mentioned, many faces from Calcutta’s acting fraternity will feature in the film. Tony favourite Shantanu Moitra will chip in with the music, with lyrics written by Swanand Kirkire. Avik Mukhopadhyay will be the man behind the camera. The story is written by Shyamal Sengupta and Ritesh Shah.
Lost is scheduled to go on the floors on the third week of this month and will be shot in a start-to-finish schedule in Calcutta and Purulia. “Calcutta looks beautiful in the monsoons and I want to capture a lot of that in Lost,” says Tony. The film is eyeing a 2022 release.
