Hrithik Roshan’s Patty and Deepika Padukone’s Minni are among a special group of Indian Air Force pilots who launch a retaliatory airstrike in Pakistan-occupied Kashmir, prompting intense aerial battle sequences reminiscent of Tom Cruise’s Top Gun movies in the trailer of Siddharth Anand’s Fighter.

Dropped by the makers on Monday, the three-minute-nine-second long video has high-octane action scenes featuring real fighter planes. It promises a patriotic film that draws on the heroic exploits of the Indian combat aviators who breached the neighbouring country’s skyline in the aftermath of the 26/11 terrorist attack in Mumbai and the 2019 Pulwama attack in Kashmir.

The trailer focuses on the journey of Hrithik’s Squadron Leader Shamsher Pathania, better known as Patty, who emerges as the hero of the newly established elite unit commissioned by the Indian Air Force headquarters. “A fighter is not one who achieves his targets; a fighter is one who decimates them,” warns Hrithik’s voiceover as he swoops down on his enemies in a fighter jet right at the beginning of the trailer.

Apart from the breathtaking aerial action scenes, the chemistry between Hrithik’s Patty and Deepika’s Minal Rathore a.k.a. Minni also gets highlighted in Fighter trailer, which also captures some feel-good moments of camaraderie among Anil Kapoor, Karan Singh Grover and Akshay Oberoi’s characters.

Touted as “the story of Air Dragons who are willing to give it their all for the nation while going through the highs and lows of their internal and external battles”, Fighter marks Deepika's third collaboration with Siddharth after Bachna Ae Haseeno (2008) and the Shah Rukh Khan-starrer Pathaan. On the other hand, Hrithik and Siddharth previously worked together on projects like Bang Bang (2014) and Yash Raj Films’s action thriller War.

Produced under the banners of Viacom18 Studios and Marflix Pictures, the music of the film is composed by Vishal and Sheykhar.

Fighter is slated to hit the theatres on January 25.
