A moment from Mumbai Diaries season 2

Mumbai Diaries season 2 is a highly emotional, pensive tear-jerker. The performances and explosive star cast have once again elevated the series to a superlative level. Everyone has lived and breathed that dark period. Konkona Sensharma, the silent warrior, is par excellence again. She is actually a school of powerful emotions. Loved the cute and beautiful unspoken relationship between her and Dr Ahan (played by Satyajeet Dubey). Kaushik aka Mohit Raina is a treat to watch. He has such bold charisma and owns the screen with finesse and an impeccable performance.

His mature and layered character is undeniably the best and is comparable to those of top Bollywood heroes. Our very dear Parambrata Chattopadhyay as a surprise package is highly intimidating with his effortless act. However, I have to agree with our t2 critic, that the forced drama between him and Konkona felt unnecessary and immature. The last poignant scene of Kaushik and Ananya left me teary-eyed for a long time as it resonated with my own personal loss of a dear one. The ending and treatment could have been better. In the end, the actual winner is the undying spirit of Mumbaikars and their unbeatable zeal to bounce back in life. Long live aamchi Mumbai and a big grand salute to all our real frontline workers who resurrected the city of dreams. (I liked/didn’t like Mumbai Diaries 2 because... October 9)

As a viewer, I felt the second season of the medical drama Mumbai Diaries failed to engage the audience the way its predecessor did. Centred around the Maharashtra floods of 2005, the series focussed on a team of doctors working diligently to arrest the chaos around them. Despite having a strong backdrop, the series sways away from the spine-chilling gravity of the crisis and ultimately turns out to be a debacle. The storyline lacked proper synchronisation. As a result, the majority of the portions seemed ill-conceived and tedious. Even though the first two episodes gathered significant momentum, the director’s inability to retain it greatly reduced its chances to be as expansive as expected. Despite the blemishes, Mohit Raina and Konkona Sen Sharma delivered spectacular performances that elevated the standard of the series by adding some interest to a hackneyed concept. In a nutshell, it was a major disappointment for me.

I sat down to watch Mumbai Diaries 2 with lots of expectations as I immensely loved the first season of the medical drama released two years back. Unfortunately, this fresh season, which is set during the devastating Mumbai floods of 2005, couldn’t meet my expectations. Even though in this season, too, just like the previous one, Mohit Raina as Dr Kaushik Oberoi delivered a powerful performance. While watching the show, I felt the new season had nothing in it except Raina’s act. The story was overburdened with too many characters and their individual tales which made it clumsy. According to me, it’s the main drawback of this season. This part of the series really failed to create an impact.
