Randeep Hooda is quite an underrated actor in Bollywood, though he has chosen his roles meticulously over the years and all his performances have been up to the mark, whether it be as a cop in Once Upon A Time In Mumbaai (2010) and Kick (2014) or as a ‘caring’ kidnapper in Highway (2014), the kind one can fall in love with. In my opinion, his best role was in Sarbjit (2016), not only for the mind-boggling physical transformation he underwent for the role but also for the way his performance immortalised this heartwrenching true story on celluloid. My favourite Randeep Hooda role is as Mahabir Bhati in Highway. Though Highway was Alia Bhatt’s film totally, Hooda owned his character. I became his fan after this film. In this movie, after Mahabir abducted Alia’s Veera, the way the relationship between the two grew was shown beautifully and was different from conventional films. Randeep portrayed his character flawlessly. He showed the right amount of emotion. We not only saw a caged Veera turn into a vivacious girl, we also witnessed how Mahabir has an emotional side hidden behind a ruthless gangster. The way he hugged and tried to protect Veera was an example of a very different type of love. Randeep Hooda deserves more such roles.

My favourite Randeep Hooda role is of Mahabir in Highway. It was a perfectly crafted and well-thoughtout character written by Imtiaz Ali. Mahabir is a man of emotions, which he hides behind his mask of crime. However, when he and Veera develop a special bond, he unveils various layers of his traumatic childhood and how he has tried to survive on his own since he escaped from there. His genuine love and affection towards Veera helped her raise her voice against the abuse she faced as a child in front of her family and step out of her home to live a peaceful life.

Randeep Hooda as Mahabir in Highway won my heart. Apart from his laudable acting skills, the look he carried throughout the movie is praiseworthy. In many scenes, his eyes spoke a thousand words. The love that developed in Mahabir during the journey of the film was adroitly portrayed by the actor, which made my teenage heart long to meet someone like him. The climax was perfect, but the last scene made my heart weep.

Randeep Hooda is, surely, one of the most powerful and prominent actors in Bollywood right now. My favourite Randeep Hooda role is Mahabir Bhati from the 2014 Imtiaz Ali-directed movie Highway. The Bolly star portrayed the role of the criminal just perfectly. He delivered a powerpacked performance. Plus, the characters of an underworld don named Deshu and an honest police officer Inspector Suryakant, which the actor played in his movies D and Risk respectively, are also my fave Randeep Hooda roles.
