Actress Fatima Sana Shaikh has urged people suffering from epilepsy to speak about their condition and seek professional help in an Instagram video shared on Purple Day — observed globally on March 26 every year to spread awareness about the medical condition.
“To all the epilepsy warriors, stay strong, take your medicines on time, visit the doctor, and most importantly, speak about your condition,” Fatima, who herself suffers from epilepsy, says in the video, shared by a Mumbai-based NGO Samman Association.
“Often we feel disappointed or angry because we see people not understanding us or our condition. I think it’s unfair to expect the person before me to understand a condition they know nothing about in the first place. So it’s our responsibility to tell everyone around us how to handle epilepsy attacks, what first aid measures they can administer, and what the condition is itself,” she adds in the video, which has so far garnered over 14,000 views on Instagram.
The 31-year-old got diagnosed with epilepsy while she was training for her debut film Dangal in 2016, she wrote in a story highlight on Instagram.
Fatima has recently wrapped shooting for Sam Bahadur, the Vicky Kaushal-starrer in which she plays former prime minister Indira Gandhi. She will also be seen in Dhak Dhak, directed and co-written by Tarun Dudeja.
