Fast X zooms past Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 in the US, beats Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania in India

Vin Diesel and Jason Momoa’s Fast X has collected around Rs 60 crore nett at the box office in India in four days, beating Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania’s opening weekend collections of Rs 25.85 crore nett and emerging as the biggest Hollywood opener of the year in the country.

According to trade reports, the film opened to Rs 12.5 crore nett on Thursday, followed by Rs 13.6 crore nett on Friday. The collections witnessed a jump over the weekend, with the film earning Rs 16.2 crore nett on Saturday and Rs 17.5 crore nett on Sunday.

Fast X, the tenth instalment of the Fast and Furious franchise, was off to a racy start at the worldwide box office, dislodging Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 from the top spot in US and Canada.

The action adventure film earned USD 67.5 million in North America over the extended weekend against USD 32 million earned by the Marvel superhero movie.

According to Box Office Mojo reports, Fast X added another USD 199.8 million from the overseas markets, taking its worldwide box office collection to USD 267.3 million. Bulk of its earnings globally came from China (USD 78.3 million). Guardians of The Galaxy Vol. 3 has made USD 266.5 million domestically and USD 659.1 million globally so far.

Louis Leterrier-helmed action thriller fared better than only the first three movies in the Fast & Furious franchise in terms of opening collection. The 2015 blockbuster Furious 7 (USD 142.2 million) remains the only movie to cross the USD 100-million mark in the opening weekend. The previous film in the series, Fast 9, opened to USD 70 million in 2021.

Apart from Vin Diesel and Jason Momoa, Fast X also stars Michelle Rodriguez, Tyrese Gibson, Jordana Brewster, Brie Larson, Rita Moreno, Jason Statham, Charlize Theron, Scott Eastwood and Helen Mirren in key roles.
