Vin Diesel’s Dominic Toretto and his “family” of street racers are up against a vindictive and blood-thirsty Jason Momoa’s Dante in the action-packed Fast X trailer, dropped by Universal Pictures on Friday.

The three-minute-42-second-long trailer, for the tenth instalment of the long-running Fast and the Furious film series, introduces us to Momoa’s Dante and Brie Larson’s Tess as the latest set of super-skilled baddies.

Dante is the son of drug kingpin Reyes, who was killed by Dominic a.k.a Dom in Fast Five. He has spent the last 12 years masterminding a plan to exact revenge on Dom.

Dom, on the other hand, is shown as a vulnerable man concerned for the safety of his family. But he has no choice left other than retaliating as Momoa’s motorcycle-riding, bomb-planting Dante wreaks havoc on his life and is joined by Tess.

In the process, we are introduced to all the characters — both old and new— as they choose their pack and try to defend them with all their might. At the end of the video, we also see Charlize Theron’s supervillain Cipher.

From chase sequences involving cars and helicopters to gravity-defying motorcycle stunts, the trailer offers everything the Fast & Furious franchise is popular for.

We are also shown a glimpse of a major fight scene between Theron’s Cipher and Michelle Rodriguez’s Letty. The video ends with a promise of an epic car race between Dom and Dante.

The official synopsis reads, “Dante’s plot will scatter Dom’s family from Los Angeles to the catacombs of Rome, from Brazil to London and from Portugal to Antarctica. New allies will be forged and old enemies will resurface. But everything changes when Dom discovers that his own 8-year-old son is the ultimate target of Dante’s vengeance.”

Directed by Louis Leterrier and written by Justin Lin and Dan Mazeau, Fast X also brings back franchise regulars Tyrese Gibson, Chris “Ludacris” Bridges, Jordana Brewster, Sung Kang and Scott Eastwood. Other stars returning in the film include Jason Statham’s Deckard Shaw, John Cena’s Jakob Toretto and Helen Mirren’s Magdalene “Queenie” Ellmanson-Shaw.

Fast X will hit the theatres on May 19.
