Farzi makers Raj and DK had approached Shahid Kapoor for a film but the actor insisted that they do a series together, Shahid said in an interview recently.

"I had loved Raj and DK’s The Family Man 2. They called me for a film. I asked if they had a show for me. They went ‘really?’, and I said yes! It’s exciting to collaborate with people who are at the top of their game, and in India, they are the best of the best," said Shahid, who is set to make his OTT debut with Farzi at the age of 41.

The eight-episode crime thriller, set to stream on Prime Video from February 10, also marks the Hindi OTT debut of actor Vijay Sethupathi. The show follows the story of a con artist (Shahid) on a mission to script a rags-to-riches story by printing counterfeit currency.

“It is a lot of firsts. We started talking about the show even before everybody started talking about OTT as an option. When I say everybody, I mean the film fraternity. I love their (Raj Nidimoru and Krishna DK) shows,” said Shahid.

Talking about Raj and DK, Shahid said, “They really allow the actors to come out and express themselves and sometimes they are really worried with what we are doing with the shots. But they let you do what you want to do and I felt very free.”

The show, he said, was “fluid” and “contemporary”. “The way the characters have been written and developed allows every actor to really dig-in deep because there is enough meat there if you really go looking hard for it and it’s very democratic.”

Farzi also stars Raashii Khanna, Kay Kay Menon, Bhuvan Arora, Regina Cassandra, and Amol Palekar in pivotal roles.
