Filmmaker Farhan Akhtar on Saturday shared a video featuring scenes from Dil Chahta Hai to mark 23 years of his directorial debut with the 2001 movie.
Penned and directed by Farhan, the comedy drama starring Aamir Khan, Saif Ali Khan and Akshaye Khanna released in theatres on August 10, 2001. The film also features Preity Zinta, Dimple Kapadia, Sonali Kulkarni, Rajat Kapoor, Suhasini Mulay, Anjula Bedi, Suchitra Pillai in key roles.
“Here’s to lifelong friendships. To the cast, crew and audience, your love has kept #DilChahtaHai alive for 23 years. #23YearsOfDilChahtaHai,” Farhan captioned the video on Instagram.
Produced by Ritesh Sidhwani under the banner of Excel Entertainment, Dil Chahta Hai dwells on friendships, love and self-discovery. Set in Mumbai, Goa and Sydney, it follows the journey of three friends — Akash (Aamir), Sid (Akshaye) and Sameer (Saif) — as they deal with the complexities of adulthood, weaving in elements of love, heartbreak and self-realisation.
Bollywood celebrities flooded the comment section with their love for the film. Dia Mirza wrote, “One of the best films ever ,” while Shibani commented,“The best ever .” Zoya Akhtar, on the other hand, reacted with a heart emoticon. Anshuman Jha addressed the film as “Legacy! .”
Farhan’s next film Don 3, the franchise's fourth instalment, starring Priyanka Chopra, Kiara Advani and Ranveer Singh, is slated to hit theatres in 2025.
