Farhan Akhtar revisited Goa’s Chapora Fort on Sunday, 23 years after filming Aamir Khan, Akshaye Khanna and Saif Ali Khan’s iconic scene at the same location for his directorial debut Dil Chahta Hai.
Dropping a picture with Bambai Meri Jaan director Shujaat Saudagar from the fort, the 49-year-old actor-director wrote on Instagram, “First time back at Chapora Fort since we filmed Akash, Sid and Sameer talking about life. That was 23 years ago.”
In the picture, Farhan and Shujaat sit on the ramparts of the fort and smile at each other as the sun goes down in the background, reminding fans of the iconic scene from his 2001 movie.
Frahan went on to express his nostalgia as he revisited the site and wrote how “some places are just magical”. He ended the note by writing about how Goa’s magical ambience is still the same as it was 23 years back, even though many things have changed. “A lot has changed but the warm, sea-salt infused Goan air remains the same.”
Dil Chahta Hai dwells on friendships, love and self-discovery. Set in Mumbai, Goa and Sydney, it follows the journey of three friends — Akash (Aamir), Sid (Akshaye) and Sameer (Saif)as they deal with the complexities of adulthood, weaving in elements of love, heartbreak and self-realisation. In one of the iconic scenes from the movie, the friends lounge on the fort’s ramparts and gaze at the sea, contemplating the uncertainties entangling their lives.
