Horror film Exhuma has emerged as the first South Korean film to complete 100 days in Indian theatres, movie distributor Impact Films announced on Sunday.
“EXHUMA has made history! The first Korean film to shine for 100 days in Indian cinemas. Currently screening only in one cinema in Hyderabad. Coming soon on VOD in multiple languages,” Impact Films wrote alongside a poster of the movie on X.
Directed by Jang Jae-Hyun, Exhuma released in Indian theatres on May 3. It features popular Korean actors Choi Min-Sik, Kim Go-Eun, Yoo Hai-Jin and Lee Do-Hyun.
Exhuma follows a wealthy Korean-American family that turns to the shaman Hwa-rim (Kim Go-eun) and her protégé Bong-gil (Lee Do-hyun) to cure a newborn boy’s mysterious illness, which is diagnosed as a “Grave's Call”, a curse from a vengeful ancestor. To break the curse, the family decides to relocate the ancestor’s grave. As Feng Shui master Hwa-rim and a mortician undertake this dangerous task, they uncover dark secrets and terrifying truths buried in the past.
Exhuma amassed a total of USD 98 million worldwide, with a collection of USD 84.26 million in South Korea. It grossed Rs 1 crore in India following its release. The film has emerged as the highest-grossing South Korean film of 2024 and the sixth highest-grossing South Korean film of all time.
Exhuma premiered in the Forum section at the 74th Berlin International Film Festival on February 16. It was released theatrically in South Korea on February 22.
