Daniel Kwan and Daniel Scheinert-directed Everything Everywhere All At Once won the Best Picture award at the 95th Academy Awards, bagging a total of seven awards out of the 11 categories it was nominated in. Harrison Ford presented the award to the director duo for the absurdist comedy-drama.

While accepting the award, the film’s producer Jonathan Wang said, “This is incredible, there is no movie without our big-hearted cast and crew. It is intimidating speaking up here. I never thought that I’ll be able to say this but thank you to the Academy. This is for my dad, who like a lot of immigrant parents died young and taught me that no individual is more important than the profits.”

Director Daniel Kwan thanked all the storytellers who inspired him. “The world is changing rapidly and few of our stories are keeping pace. Sometimes it is scary that movies move at the rate of years and the internet is moving at the rate of milliseconds. I have great faith in stories and we will get through this,” he said.

Everything Everywhere All At Once and All Quiet on the Western Front battled it out on the Oscars stage, with the two films going neck to neck with the trophies.

Everything Everywhere took home Best Picture, Best Director, Best Original Screenplay, Best Editing, Best Actress in a Leading Role, Best Supporting Actor and Best Supporting Actress. Michelle Yeoh took home the trophy for Best Actress, while her co-stars Ke Huy Quan and Jamie Lee Curtis were awarded for their performance in a supporting role.

All Quiet on the Western Front received four Oscars for Best International Film, Best Cinematography, Best Production Design and Best Original Score.

The 10 movies up for the Best Picture award were: Everything Everywhere All at Once, The Banshees of Inisherin, The Fabelmans, Tar, Top Gun: Maverick, Avatar: The Way of Water, Elvis, All Quiet on the Western Front, Women Talking and Triangle of Sadness.

Everything Everywhere All At Once is streaming on Sony LIV.
