Along with Ajay Devgn, his Yuva co-star Esha Deol Takhtani makes her streaming debut with Rudra. We caught up with Esha for a chat on being Shaila in Rudra and what kind of parts interest her now.

What got you interested in Rudra?

I watched Luther when it first came out, and I have been a huge fan of Idris Elba. Also, it gave me the chance to reunite with Ajay (Devgn) who I know will only take a show like this several notches higher. I also like the role I was offered because Shaila is very dignified and strong and it’s a very smooth-flowing role through the series. Keeping my likes right now and my maturity level, I felt this role really suits me.

Is Shaila like you in any way?

No, I don’t think so. She holds herself back too often... in life, I don’t hold back like her... I would probably give it back to people sooner! (Laughs)

What did you like about Luther and how do you think Rudra takes it forward in the Indian context?

It’s Indianised to suit the sensibilities of our audiences. I have always loved the pace of Luther, and Rudra has that too. Rudra takes you through this feisty, fierce, intense journey with him... it’s very organic, nothing is forced.

What was it like sharing screen space with Ajay Devgn so many years after Yuva?

It’s always been wonderful working with him. We took off right from where we had left off. He’s such a seasoned and amazing actor. The first scene I did for Rudra was with Ajay. It was very, very smooth.

What does it feel like working in this phase where varied roles are being written for women?

One of the reasons why I decided to come back and work is because of the kind of work that’s being offered to me. There is such huge scope for writers, directors and artistes. The roles and stories that are being written are both versatile and varied. There is so much for a viewer to watch as well as so much variety for us to pick and choose from as actors.

There is quite a bit of work coming my way now. And I will pick and choose what I feel works for me.

Have your daughters watched anything featuring you yet?

I haven’t shown them much. My elder one (Radhya) watched a little bit of Na Tum Jaano Na Hum, which she loved. Otherwise, they love dancing to Dilbara.
