The highly-anticipated Emily in Paris Season 3 has hit Netflix and it is high on fashion, as expected, but not as much on the twists and turns. The 10 episodes of this season of the romantic comedy starring Lily Collins as Emily Cooper — an American fashionista with a job in Paris — have many predictable outcomes. Here are four things that stand out, for better or for worse.
The season’s climax: Alfie dumps Emily, Camille dumps Gabriel
You may have expected a resolution to the cliffhanger ending of Season 2, with Emily torn between the two men in her life – hot French chef Gabriel and suave British banker Alfie. But the makers decided to stretch the suspense all through Season 3 before untying a few knots. So, here we have Emily fanning her feelings for Gabriel who’s all set to marry Camille (but is still in love with Emily).
The season’s climactic point arrives with Camille dumping Gabriel at the altar, realising that her fiance and Emily are still in love. Which also gives Alfie a reason to walk out on Emily, having had enough of her yo-yoing. That’s a good enough hint at who Emily might end up with, but we can always expect Cupid to play spoilsport in our heroine’s life.
Three new love triangles thrown into the mix
Love triangles have turned out to be a major plot point for Emily in Paris, perhaps because of the success of the Emily-Gabriel-Alfie drama. In Season 3, three other women characters find themselves in a pickle over men.
Camille, while back together with Gabriel, is smitten by Greek artist Sofia Sideris (Melia Kreiling). Sylvie’s Dutch photographer boyfriend Erik (Soren Bregendal) is jealous of her husband Laurent (Arnaud Binard) with good reason – the two are still married. The third triangle — Mindy (Ashley Park) being caught between boyfriend Benoît (Kevin Dias) and her school crush Nicolas de Leon (Paul Forman) — comes across as forced.
Emily’s ignorance of French no longer feels cute
Season 1 showed Emily, fresh out of Chicago, finding her way through Paris and Parisian culture. Her rudimentary knowledge of French was comedic and resulted in some good laughs in the first season, but the series makers have continued with the character’s ignorance of the language and attempts to anglicise French words. In Episode 6 titled ‘Ex-en-Provence’, Emily doesn’t just mispronounce the French name Theodule as ‘Deedle-do’ but also breathes a sigh of relief when pronouncing English names, saying, ‘Now that is a name I can pronounce’. Three seasons into the show, we are still suffering the same eye rolls from her and it isn’t fun anymore.
The fashion is super glam
Emily in Paris might have a lot of loose threads but none when it comes to fashion, which is at an all time high in Season 3. Emily brings on her A-game along with all the other ladies.
Emily’s clothes can be best described as an artist’s palette. From colourful graphic skirts and a plethora of jackets to a fluffy lavender dress that takes your breath away, she wears them all. Her friend Mindy truly finds herself, sporting hot leather corsets to neon-green bodysuits. Sylvie ups her glam quotient too, turning up in gorgeous black dresses with deep necklines. Camille, however, is stuck in her posh girl era, picking classy clothes but not really stepping out of her box.
