Parambrata Chattopadhyay’s latest directorial Ei Raat Tomar Amaar, featuring Aparna Sen and Anjan Dutt, will premiere at the 30th Kolkata International Film Festival (KIFF), the organisers have announced. Parambrata’s film will compete against six other films in the Bengali Panorama section that include Aapish, Ahana, Dhrubor Ashorjo Jibon, Mon Matal, Bhanu and Kalponik. The 30th edition of KIFF will be held from December 4-11.
Ei Raat Tomar Amaar tells the story of Amar (Anjan Dutt) and Jaya (Aparna Sen), a couple in their 60s, as they reflect on 30 years of marriage filled with regrets, heartbreaks, love and forgiveness, all unfolding over the course of a single night. As they confront their emotions, they realise that despite all the challenges they have faced, their love for each other has remained steadfast and unwavering.
Sudeshna Roy and Abhijit Guha’s Aapish, starring Sudipta Chakraborty, Sandipta Sen, Tathagata Choudhari and Kinjal Nanda, revolves around two women from vastly different social backgrounds whose lives are interconnected as they both face similar struggles due to patriarchy.
Promita Bhowmik’s Ahana also features Sudipta Chakraborty, alongside Joy Sengupta, and centres around the struggles of a woman in a patriarchal society.
Dhrubor Aschorjo Jibon, directed by Abhijit Chowdhury, features Rishav Basu in the lead and deals with the intricacies of human existence, morality and the profound impact of art on our lives.
Dipak Bandopadhyay and Priyo Chattopadhyay’s Mon Matal, starring Silajit Majumder and Aryann Bhowmick, tells the story of people who are fighting a battle against addiction.
Ayanshu Banerjee’s Bhanu — starring Ankit Mazumder, Anushka Chakraborty, Kuldip Halder and Prabir Das — is a crowd-funded project. It presents a fictional narrative inspired by Rabindranath Tagore’s life, focusing on his adolescent years.
Arka Mukhopadhyay’s Kalponik with Rajatava Datta and Satakshi Nandy in key roles follows a disgraced journalist who pursues a story that she feels will redeem her reputation.
