After his action avatars in Pathaan and Jawan, Shah Rukh Khan effortlessly slips into the character of an incurable romantic who dances his heart out on the streets to profess his love for Taapsee Pannu’s Manu in Lutt Putt Gaya, the first song from Rajkumar Hirani’s upcoming comedy-drama Dunki before the movie arrives in theatres on December 21.
Dropped by T-Series on Wednesday, the three-minute-one-second-long music video introduces Shah Rukh’s Hardy who is hopelessly in love with Manu. Their love story gains impetus when the fiery Manu, who wants to visit Britain, takes Hardy’s hand and storms out of an IELTS (International English Language Testing System) training centre. Brimming with happiness with Manu’s love for him, Hardy joins in an energetic street dance with locals to express the myriad emotions running through his head.
The foot-tapping number is accompanied by Shah Rukh’s lively moves as Hardy sings to Manu about how he is completely lost in her love. Manu continues to hold Hardy’s hand to lead him through the streets as the former smiles indulgently at her.
The lovers are surrounded by Punjabi men carrying UK flags and people with the British flag painted on their faces, hinting at the storyline that is likely to explore the topic of migration to the British isles.
The music video gives us a glimpse of the world of Dunki, set in a small town, where Hardy and his friends turn serious obstacles into hilarious hurdles — they continue to pursue their dream of going to London. It also shows the beautiful chemistry between Hardy and Manu as they prepare themselves to make their shared dream come true.
Earlier on Tuesday, Shah Rukh had shared a new poster of Dunki with a still from the Lutt Putt Gaya music video to announce that the song would drop on November 22. “Tere Dil Mein Tent Lagaunga, Tere Ishq mein Goteh Khaunga, Main toh gaya… Lutt Putt Gaya, 30 days to the journey of Love….#Dunki,” the Jawan star wrote in the caption.
Also starring Boman Irani, Vicky Kaushal, Vikram Kochhar and Anil Grover, Dunki is the first collaboration between Hirani and Shah Rukh.
