Dune: Part Two rakes in USD 178.5 million worldwide in blockbuster opening weekend

Headlined by Timothee Chalamet and Zendaya, the sci-fi epic has minted Rs 11.25 crore nett in India so far

Dune: Part Two, led by Timothee Chalamet and Zendaya, conquered the North American box office, making an impressive USD 81.5 million in ticket sales, according to studio estimates released on Sunday.

Directed by Denis Villeneuve, the film is the sequel to 2021’s Dune and is the second instalment of a screen adaptation of Frank Herbert's 1965 eponymous novel.

Internationally, Dune: Part Two continued its fabulous run, minting an additional USD 97 million, bringing its global debut to a staggering USD 178.5 million.

The film, which also stars Austin Butler, Florence Pugh and Rebecca Fergusson in pivotal roles, is gaining momentum at the Indian box office as well. It collected Rs 2.75 crore nett on the opening day, followed by Rs 3.66 crore nett on Saturday and Rs 4 crore nett on Sunday, according to industry-tracker Sacnilk.

With an additional 0.7 crore nett from paid previews on Thursday, the total collection of Dune: Part Two now stands at an impressive Rs 11.25 crore nett in India.

Originally slated for an October 2023 release, Warner Bros. made the strategic decision to move the film to March due to the Hollywood strikes. This shift allowed the star-studded cast to engage in a full-fledged promotional circuit, contributing to the movie's blockbuster opening.

Dune: Part Two's success follows in the footsteps of its predecessor, which garnered slightly over USD 100 million domestically and a remarkable USD 400 million globally during its theatrical run.
