Drishyam 2, Kothamrito, She Said, Smile, The Menu, Ogo Bideshini: Hindi, English and Bengali films to hit theatres this Friday

At least six films —one Hindi, two Bengali and three English— will release in cinemas on November 18

From thriller to horror and family drama to romcom, a wide range of films are hitting the theatres this Friday. Wondering what movie to catch at the plexes this weekend? Here’s all you need to know.

Drishyam 2 (Hindi)

Cast: Ajay Devgn, Tabu, Shriya Saran, Ishita Dutta, Rajat Kapoor and Akshaye Khanna

Seven years have passed since Vijay Salgaonkar (Ajay Devgn) and his family were let off the hook in the high-profile murder case of a policewoman's son. But peace eludes the family as the new IG, Tarun Ahlawat (Akshaye Khanna), digs up the old case against the Salgaonkars. The responsibility of saving his wife and children from the legal proceedings again falls on Vijay’s shoulders in this crime thriller.

She Said (English)

Based on true events, this film revolves around two journalists at The New York Times — Megan Twohey (Carey Mulligan) and Jodi Kantor (Zoe Kazan) — who publish a report bringing to light the allegations of sexual misconduct against influential Hollywood producer Harvey Weinstein (Mike Houston). Their scoop snowballs into the #MeToo movement.

The Menu (English)

Cast: Ralph Fiennes, Anya Taylor-Joy, Nicholas Hoult, Hong Chau and Janet McTeer

In this horror thriller, a young couple, Margot (Anya Taylor-Joy) and Tyler (Nicholas Hoult), visit a remote island to dine at an exclusive restaurant Hawthorne. Celebrity chef Julian Slowik (Ralph Fiennes), who runs the restaurant, is known for his skills in molecular gastronomy. He prepares a lavish menu for the couple. Each item on the menu is treated as art. But behind this facade of luxury dining, lies some shocking surprises for the guests.

Smile (English)

Dr. Rose Cotter (Sosie Bacon), an overworked psychiatrist, experiences a traumatic incident involving a patient who dies by suicide in a bizarre turn of events. She eventually starts hallucinating about frightening situations while strange occurrences around her make her relatives believe that she has become mentally ill. Unable to cope with her trauma, Dr. Cotter decides to revisit her past, which might hold the key to her mental peace.

Kothamrito (Bengali)

Cast: Kaushik Ganguly, Aparajita Adhya, Biswanath Basu and Adetee Chatterjee

This family drama explores the dynamics of relationships between two couples. The first —Sanatan (Kaushik Ganguly) and Sulekha Ganguly (Aparajita Adhya) — lead a happy life. Sanatan cannot speak and pens down every thought that crosses his mind. Despite the inability to communicate verbally, Sanatan makes his marriage with Sulekha work. On the other end of the spectrum is another couple in their neighbourhood, played by Biswanath Basu and Adeetee Chatterjee, who fail to understand each other’s needs and are going through a rough patch in their marriage.

Ogo Bideshini (Bengali)

Directed by: Anshuman Pratyush

Cast: Ankush Hazra, Alexandra Taylor, Manashi Sinha, Shaantilal Mukherjee and Rajnandini Paul.

In this romantic comedy set in London, Babai (Ankush) is in love with his English neighbour Suzu (Alexandra). But his mother (Manashi) will not accept a foreigner as her daughter-in-law. Babai’s parents visit London to fix his wedding with an Indian girl, Trisha (Rajnandini). Even though Suzu bonds with Babai’s mom as they explore the city together, the latter adamantly refuses to accept a Mem-bou (English daughter-in-law).
