Benedict Cumberbatch-starrer Doctor Strange In The Multiverse of Madness, which released in theatres across India on May 6, is set to premiere on OTT platform Disney+Plus Hotstar on June 22, Marvel Studios announced in an Instagram post on Thursday.
The first horror genre offering from Marvel Studios begins from where Stephen Strange opened the multiverse in Spiderman: No Way Home, another blockbuster from the Marvel franchise which broke several records at the box office in India after the pandemic-induced slump.
Starring Benedict Cumberbatch, Elizabeth Olsen, Chiwetel Ejiofor, Benedict Wong, Michael Stuhlbarg and Rachel McAdams, Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness grossed Rs 30 crore at the box office in India on its first day.
Doctor Strange, the most popular wizard of the Marvel Universe, teams up with old allies and fights new, arguably stronger demons, as he ventures into the multiverse.
The success of Spiderman: No Way Home, in which Doctor Strange opens the portal to multiverse and endless possibilities, left Marvel fans clamouring for more of the multiverse saga. Spiderman: No Way Home, Marvel’s first attempt to introduce the multiverse concept, paved the way for Doctor Strange 2 or Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness.
Disney+Hotstar members will be able to stream the 2-hour-6-minute adventure ride into the multiverse at home from June 22. Marvel Studios also released a video on Instagram on Thursday night in which the actors of Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness announce the film’s OTT release date.
“This is a story that will connect MCU in new dimensions you never thought was possible,” Benedict Wong, who plays the role of Wong in the film, says in the video.
“With maddening twists that will have you wracking your brain for answers,” as described in the video, Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness will make it to the watchlist of all Marvel fans who could not watch the film in the theatres and even those who wish to rewatch it from the comfort of their home.
