Director Sayan Basu Chowdhury is all set to start the shoot of the film Bhorer Alo, which depicts a tale of love and romance between childhood sweethearts Ajay and Rupsha. “An accident at a young age leaves Rupsha paralysed on her left side as Ajay takes on her responsibilities from the age of 17. Now 10 years later their story takes a turn as a new person enters their lives and the bond between Rupsha and Ajay is tested by difficult circumstances. The film conveys that love has one universal language and a disability can never be a barrier between two people who are in love,” says Sayan about Bhorer Alo, which is produced by Nexone Studio. The film stars Paayel Sarkar, Somraj, Moutusi and Priyanka Bhattacharjee. A chat with Sayan.

Why did you decide to direct a love story?

I have directed love stories but always wanted to explore different varieties of the genre. What struck me the most was the story idea and how interesting it was.

What is the genesis of the story idea?

I was out with my friends and I saw a couple. The girl was in a wheelchair and was being pulled by her boyfriend or husband. The joyful nature of the two inspired me to write a story where love can transcend all boundaries.

Why cast Paayel and Somraj as the lead?

The first reason being both are excellent actors. Good performers like them can depict the plot and the pain behind the characters with ease. Also, Somraj has been a personal favourite of mine in the new generation of actors. His looks, voice and performance are excellent. As for Paayeldi, she has been my inspiration since Prem Amar, so I have been planning to work with her for quite some time now.

What are the high points of the film?

The chemistry between the two lead characters Ajay and Rupsha is definitely the highest point. Their daily routine, mundane life, health check-ups and between all this how the romance between them is ever present. How the two show love never through their words but by constantly being a pillar for each other.

What are you trying to say through the film?

There are good people in this world. And by good, I mean genuinely decent people. In a world where we are always listening to incidents of couples cheating on each other, there exists a certain group of people who keep their promise no matter what the circumstances are. How the love is not a physical thing for them but rather something divine.
